Paradoxically, we do not care much about the content itself (albeit we acknowledge that content is king): for us, the subject matter can be anything as long as it uses human and/or machine readable signs. We are on the technology side of things as our daily bread is about ensuring that our software is future-proof and the delivery is device agnostic and works on your fridge if need be. We cherish instructional design (a sibling of UX) and web design. All in all, we are the geeky side of eLearning and love it. We are signing the manifesto because we truly believe that technology can change the way we learn and absorb new knowledge needed to understand the world around us. We are fully endorsing the manifesto because as much as we love technology, we can only admit that it is only a means to achieve the most important goal: help humans acquire, absorb and use new knowledge.

The manifesto puts into words what we try to do every day. We laugh about ineffective elearning only because we know that there are people who believe in these principles and are trying to live them every day.

Sadly so much of what passes as eLearning these days is the result of professionals being unaware of certain elements of their trade and craft. I hope that more professionals take this more seriously; by becoming a signatory, I am doing my small part to advance the knowledge and craft by pledging to be more aware and help others to do so as well.
Emma Santa
I endorse the Serious eLearning Manifesto and all of the principles described herein.
