We consider the principles of the Serious eLearning Manifesto as parameters for an ethical conduct based on truth and the search for constant improvement. Fractal EAD (Distance Learning) takes this commitment with the awareness that the way to offer truly useful and effective content is to work with transparency and respect to the knowledge and the student.

I agree with the supporting principles of the manifesto and I’m extremely passionate about a number of them; from tying learning to performance goals and targeting Improved performance, to respecting learnings and adapting to their needs, to measuring effectiveness. These are principles we are actively applying, and improving upon, to enable our workforce, make out company successful and a great place to work and grow.

As Digital Learning Solutions Consultant and Designer of Learning Experiences, I endorse the eLearning Manifesto! It is important to me that evidence-based learning approaches, rooting in Learning Sciences, are combined with LXD to address the complex interactions of a learning environment and culture and social/group and individual factors in digitally enhanced education/training/learning. I also believe that by tailoring eLearning to the learners in an iterative/agile way, following human-centred design principles, we focus on matching real needs, which will lead to measurable improvement in real life and ‘Return on Effort’ so that all stakeholders are winners.
Dawn Snyder
I signed this years ago but want to recommit to learner-focused design in e-learning. It’s important that we focus on standards that reflect our current understanding of what good instruction looks like and works like in order to get the results we want/need in our organizations.

I support the effort to completely leverage the technology available to us to enhance the learning experience and provide more effective training. I will not simply digitize traditional training materials.

The vision of the Manifesto is exactly mine with one exception: not “performance” but “usefulness for the learner” is my relevant goal. It can result in performance but also in personal flourishing.
Seira Shalton

I completely endorse this manifesto. The impish part of me thinks it may not be radical enough, but most days, I’d be overjoyed if we just got the right type of performance intervention used for the right problem – and when learning is part of the solution – the right type of learning solution/media, built with sound instructional design strategy and with transfer in mind, to foster behavior change and performance improvement.

Solutions for REAL
As a freelance LX designer and developer looking to help organizations and classrooms harness the power of learning with robust, engaging, authentic learning (REAL) solutions, the eLearning Manifesto is the guiding force in how I work with clients. Whether I’m “just” developing a single REAL solution or creating a REAL solutions package targeted at changing behavior, I use the Manifesto to guide my work. I’m so glad I have something concrete and research-backed to guide me!

Paradoxically, we do not care much about the content itself (albeit we acknowledge that content is king): for us, the subject matter can be anything as long as it uses human and/or machine readable signs. We are on the technology side of things as our daily bread is about ensuring that our software is future-proof and the delivery is device agnostic and works on your fridge if need be. We cherish instructional design (a sibling of UX) and web design. All in all, we are the geeky side of eLearning and love it. We are signing the manifesto because we truly believe that technology can change the way we learn and absorb new knowledge needed to understand the world around us. We are fully endorsing the manifesto because as much as we love technology, we can only admit that it is only a means to achieve the most important goal: help humans acquire, absorb and use new knowledge.
